Why do we need basement insulation?

Basements are often the coldest areas of any property, and at greater risk of damp. Effective insulation helps address these concerns – and the overall energy efficiency of the building.

In a new construction, applying insulation to a basement with external walls creates a conditioned space¹. With existing underground or semi-underground basements, internal wall and floor insulation will significantly reduce heat loss.

Ceiling insulation meanwhile can prevent thermal transfer from the room above – or thermal transfer to it if the basement is converted and heated. It can also enhance soundproofing of the space.
